What Lies Beneath: Postgraduate Conference 2003

This conference was held on the 6th November 2003 and provided a forum for postgraduates across all Melbourne based universities to meet and examine the palimpsestic and intertextual aspects of a wide range of cultures and cultural products in a collegial and academically stimulating environment.

Two post-conference publications options were made available to presenters.

The First Option: 20min presentations posted on this conference website are available from the Index of Papers.

The Second Option: Papers were developed into a 5000-word article to be submitted for a special edition of the The Refractory: A Journal of Entertainment media.

Presenters were invited to take advantage of either or both opportunities and submission to one did not preclude selection for the other.

Keynote Speaker

Prof. Ross Gibson, New Media and Digital Culture, UTS

Ross Gibson is an artist, curator, writer, and award-winning director, who is recognised as Australia’s leading digital media curator and researcher. During 1997 and 1998, he was the Australia Council’s inaugural Fellow in New Media. His research places him at the forefront of experimentation in Australia in the development of new forms of interactive narratives, particularly in the field of navigable and algorithmic systems. His new-media work entails the production of context and the design and delivery of architectural cohesion and IT- systems for museum, public spaces and dynamic databases.
